Hornady Cam Lock Bullet Puller

The Hornady Cam Lock Bullet Puller is a press-mounted collet bullet puller designed for removing bullets from compatible rifle cartridges. It uses a cam-lock mechanism to grip the bullet while the reloading press provides the leverage needed for removal.

The puller accepts interchangeable Hornady collets for different bullet diameters. Therefore, users can select the appropriate collet for the cartridge being worked on. Hornady currently lists the tool as item 050095.

Cam Lock Bullet Puller Features

The steel puller body uses a cam-lock assembly that clamps the selected collet around the bullet. In addition, the threaded body fits reloading presses with standard 7/8″-14 threads. As a result, the tool integrates directly with a conventional single-stage or progressive reloading press.

The puller is intended for rifle cartridges only. Hornady specifically states that users should not use it with pistol cartridges. Furthermore, the tool uses separate collets rather than a universal gripping system.

The interchangeable collet range covers most bullet diameters from .17 through .458 calibre, with the exception of flush-seated wadcutters. Therefore, reloaders can select a collet that matches the bullet diameter being handled. Hornady lists individual collets by bullet diameter, including common sizes such as .223, .243, .270, .284, .308/.312 and .338/.358.

Cam Lock Bullet Puller Compatibility

The correct Hornady collet is essential for proper operation. Each collet corresponds to a specific bullet-diameter range, so the user should select the size that matches the cartridge. Hornady sells the collets separately from the puller.

The tool works with a reloading press rather than operating as a standalone impact puller. Consequently, it suits reloaders who already use a compatible press and want a dedicated collet-style bullet-pulling system.

Hornady also offers a replacement Cam-Lock handle assembly, item 050094, for the puller. Therefore, users can replace the handle assembly without replacing the complete tool.
