The Hornady Neck Wall Thickness Gauge adds precise neck measurement capability to the Hornady Lock-N-Load Concentricity Tool. Its .0005-inch increment dial indicator helps identify variations in case neck thickness, allowing reloaders to sort cases and check the results of neck-turning work. The gauge therefore suits precision case preparation where consistent neck dimensions matter.

The gauge works as an accessory to the Hornady Lock & Load Concentricity Tool, rather than as a standalone measuring instrument. The Concentricity Tool provides the supporting frame and case-positioning system. The Neck Wall Thickness Gauge adds the neck-sort spindle, pilot system and finer dial indicator. Hornady does not include the Concentricity Tool with this accessory.

Neck Thickness Measurement

The Hornady Neck Wall Thickness Gauge uses a caliber-specific pilot in the neck-sort spindle. First, set the dial indicator against the pilot and zero the indicator. Next, position the case on the pilot and rotate the case while keeping the neck-sort spindle stationary. The indicator then shows the neck wall measurement around the circumference. This process can reveal variations between cases and differences around an individual case neck.

Hornady supplies pilots for several common bullet diameters: .224, .243, .257, .264, .277, .284, .308, .338, .358 and .452 inch. The supplied pilot range covers calibers from 22 through 45 caliber. Each pilot corresponds to the specific bullet diameter listed by Hornady.

The gauge can also help verify a neck-turning operation. However, it only measures and identifies neck thickness; it does not correct thickness variation. Use a separate neck-turning tool when measurement identifies material that needs removal. Consequently, the gauge serves as a measurement and sorting tool within a precision brass-preparation workflow.
