Hornady L&L Case Trim Pilot

Hornady L&L Case Trim Pilot

The Hornady L&L Case Trim Pilot is a replacement pilot for the Hornady Cam-Lock Trimmer. Each pilot matches a specific calibre and pilot diameter, so the correct version depends on the cartridge being trimmed. Hornady lists individual pilots by number and part number, making it straightforward to identify the required size.

The pilot supports the case at the cutter during trimming. As a result, it forms part of the alignment system between the cartridge case and the trimmer cutter. Hornady offers multiple pilot sizes, covering common rifle and handgun applications.

Case Trimming and Pilot Selection

The Hornady L&L Case Trim Pilot works with the Cam-Lock Trimmer, which uses standard Hornady shell holders and pilots. The trimmer has a replaceable cutting head and can trim cases up to .50 calibre. In addition, its Micro Adjust cutter allows .001-inch adjustments without moving the case.

When selecting a replacement pilot, check the cartridge and corresponding Hornady sizing information first. The pilot number and part number identify the required component. Therefore, the pilot should be selected from Hornady’s sizing information rather than by choosing a similar-looking diameter.

For reloaders using the Hornady Cam-Lock Case Trimmer, the pilot provides the correct interface between the case and cutter. The shell holder secures the case, while the pilot supports the case mouth during trimming. Consequently, the pilot is a replacement component rather than a complete case-trimming tool.

Hornady also offers related Cam-Lock accessories, including a replacement cutter, power adapter and deburring tool. The Reloading Equipment range provides additional case-preparation equipment.
