Lee’s Case Length Gauge establishes the required case length for each cartridge. The shell holder secures the case during trimming, while the cutter removes excess brass from the case mouth. As a result, you only need the appropriate gauge and shell holder when changing to another cartridge. For hand trimming, the cutter provides a simple approach that requires no dedicated motor or bench-mounted trimmer. Alternatively, an electric drill can rotate the cutter when you need to process a larger batch of cases. This gives reloaders a choice between manual operation and faster powered trimming without changing the basic setup.

The Lee Cutter & Lock Stud works with cartridges that have a bullet diameter below .475 inch. For cartridges with a bullet diameter of .475 inch or larger, Lee specifies its Large Cutter and Lock Stud instead. Therefore, check the bullet diameter before selecting the appropriate cutter.

Case Trimming System

Case preparation starts with the correct cartridge-specific Case Length Gauge and Shell Holder. Once the case sits in the shell holder, the gauge establishes the trimming reference. The cutter then removes excess material from the case mouth. After trimming, you can continue with other case-preparation steps such as chamfering and deburring.
