Lee Powder Charging Die Kit

The Lee Powder Charging Die Kit provides two rifle charging dies for use with Lee Auto-Disk, Pro Auto-Disk and Auto-Drum Powder Measures. It includes short and long versions, so reloaders can select the appropriate die for different case lengths.

Lee Powder Charging Die Kit Features

The kit contains a Short Charging Die and a Long Charging Die. Therefore, it covers a broad range of rifle case lengths without requiring a separate charging die for each cartridge.

The Short Charging Die, MFG No. 90668, suits cases from 0.860″ to 1.760″. In addition, Lee specifies it for bullet diameters of .223″ and larger because smaller diameters can increase the risk of powder bridging.

The Long Charging Die, MFG No. 90194, suits cases from 1.760″ to 2.620″. Furthermore, Lee notes that users can charge longer cases with the long die by limiting the press travel when required.

Both dies connect to compatible Lee powder measures. As a result, the powder measure can charge the case through the charging die during the press cycle.

Unlike Lee’s pistol Powder Through Expanding Dies, these rifle charging dies do not expand the case mouth. Instead, rifle case expansion takes place during the sizing operation.

The dies use standard 7/8″-14 threads. Therefore, they can fit compatible reloading presses that accept standard threaded dies. The kit requires the appropriate shell holder for the cartridge being loaded, and the shell holder does not form part of the kit.

The Short Charging Die works with cases between 0.860″ and 1.760″. Meanwhile, the Long Charging Die covers cases from 1.760″ to 2.620″. Therefore, the two dies provide overlapping coverage at the 1.760″ case length boundary.

The charging dies provide a route for powder to enter the case from the powder measure. In addition, the rifle charging system does not perform case-mouth expansion, so the sizing die handles that part of the loading process.

Lee designed the system for its Auto-Disk, Pro Auto-Disk and Auto-Drum Powder Measures. Consequently, users can integrate the charging dies into compatible Lee press and powder-measure setups.

The kit includes the two charging dies and their associated components. However, users must provide the correct shell holder for the cartridge and a compatible powder measure.
