MTM Shoulder-Gard Rifle Rest
The Shoulder-Gard Rifle Rest reduces recoil significantly. Magnum caliber rifles are growing in popularity, but heavy recoil can hurt. Therefore, MTM created a four-point flexible shooting rest to ease shoulder punishment when sighting in powerful rifles.
By using the integrated recoil-reduction sling, shooters can relax and fire more comfortably. Consequently, you will feel much less kick from the gun. However, you do not need to use the sling with lighter caliber rifles.
The recoil-reducing sling eliminates pain without blocking your view. Thus, you can sight in optics or test loads with ease.
In addition, the front pad fits standard hunting rifles and expensive custom bench-rest rifles. Furthermore, our pad design lets you keep your swivel screws installed, unlike competing brands.
With two shot bags added, the rest weighs 54 pounds. However, the flexible base design allows most people to shoot without extra weight. Alternatively, you can add 10 to 25 pounds for larger magnum calibers.
Range Cleaning Tip
Hunting rifles lack heavy barrels. Therefore, clean your barrel every 6 to 9 rounds to keep your groups tight. Always use a bore guide to protect your investment.
How Does the Shoulder-Gard Rifle Rest Work?
First, place the feet of the rest completely flat on your shooting surface. Next, add weight to the center compartment to ensure maximum stability. The rest flexes in the middle to sit flat on any bench. Adding 10 to 25 pounds flexes the base and creates a solid platform.
To use the recoil sling, pull your stock tightly into the strap. Meanwhile, keep one hand on the forearm of your rifle to prevent it from jumping up. Applying slight downward pressure with your hand usually produces the best groups.
Recoil reduction occurs as the strap pulls into the rubber pad. Then, the pad transfers energy into the flexing base and out to the bench. Consequently, your shooting bench must be rigid and clean so the rest grips firmly.
Remember, the gun stays secure because the rear stock remains strapped down. Instead of pressing your shoulder firmly into the stock, back off half an inch. As a result, you will notice much less felt recoil.
Finally, lock the front fork in place by tightening the fluted knob for maximum accuracy.
