Hornady L&L Impact Bullet Puller

The Hornady L&L Impact Bullet Puller is a kinetic tool for removing bullets from compatible rifle and pistol cartridges. It uses interchangeable collets to hold the cartridge case while controlled impacts separate the bullet from the case.

The hollow head catches the removed bullet and powder during the process. Therefore, the user can collect the components rather than allowing them to scatter.

The tool uses three collet sizes for cartridges from approximately .22 to .45 calibre. In addition, the handle provides storage for two spare collets.

Hornady Impact Bullet Puller Features

The interchangeable collets grip the cartridge case during the pulling process. Therefore, the correct collet should match the cartridge case size.

The hollow head catches the bullet and powder after separation. Furthermore, the rubber-gripped handle provides a secure hold while the user applies controlled impacts.

The tool works with most suitable rifle and pistol cartridges up to .45 calibre. However, Hornady excludes several ammunition types from use with the puller, so users should check the manufacturer’s current instructions before operation.

The manual design does not require a reloading press. Instead, the user places the cartridge into the correct collet and uses controlled impacts to separate the bullet.

Impact Bullet Puller Operation

The user first selects the appropriate collet and installs it in the plastic cap. Next, the cartridge enters the puller bullet-first, allowing the extractor groove or rim to engage the collet.

The user then tightens the cap and applies short, controlled impacts against a suitable hard surface. Hornady advises against heavy blows and recommends stopping if the bullet does not move after a series of short impacts.

The hollow head collects the separated components. As a result, the user can recover the bullet and powder after removing the cartridge from the tool.
