Lee Auto Drum Powder Measure

The Lee Auto Drum Powder Measure is a case-actuated powder measure for charging rifle and handgun cases during reloading. It uses an adjustable drum to dispense measured volumes of powder as the press operates.

The measure uses a case-actuated system that operates as the cartridge case moves through the press. Therefore, the measure can dispense a charge during each loading cycle.

The adjustable drum lets the user set the required powder volume without changing fixed powder disks. In addition, the drum can be adjusted within its working range to suit different charge volumes.

An elastomer wiper helps reduce powder shearing during operation. Furthermore, Lee designed the wiper to work with difficult-to-meter extruded powders.

The machined body mates with the precision-moulded nylon drum through a labyrinth groove. As a result, the design helps reduce powder leakage during normal operation.

The hopper has an on/off valve that allows the user to stop the powder flow when changing powder. In addition, the hopper can be removed from the measure for easier handling.

The Auto Drum Powder Measure can also use Lee’s Quick Change Drum Set. Therefore, users can prepare separate drums for different charge settings and change between preset drums when required. Lee lists the Quick Change Drum Set as product 90453.

Using the Measure During Reloading

The measure connects to a suitable charging die and operates as the case moves into position. The drum then rotates to dispense the selected volume of powder into the case.

The drum setting controls powder volume rather than a fixed weight. Therefore, the actual charge weight depends on the type and density of the powder being used.

Users should check the charge weight with a suitable scale when setting up the measure and whenever the powder, charge or operating conditions change. Always follow current published load data for the specific cartridge, bullet and powder combination.
