Lyman Pro 500 Scale Features

The Pro 500 uses a high-impact styrene base with a large leveling wheel. In addition, dual agate bearings support the beam, while a magnetic dampener helps it settle after adjustment.

The large poise provides the main weight setting, while the smaller poise provides fine adjustment. Therefore, the user can combine both readings to determine the total weight of a charge.

The scale has a maximum capacity of 505 grains. Furthermore, the small poise provides 0.1-grain increments, allowing fine adjustment when checking powder charges.

Move both poises to their zero positions and use the leveling adjustment to bring the beam pointer to zero. Recheck the zero whenever the scale is moved or before beginning a weighing session.

To weigh a powder charge, place the charge in the weighing pan and adjust the large and small poises until the beam returns to its balanced position. Read the large poise first and then add the smaller poise value.

The scale provides a useful way to check a powder measure during setup and loading. However, it only measures weight and does not determine whether a particular powder charge is safe.
